After meeting up in Cheesman Park, 9 riders on 8 motorcycles, lead by Trail Boss Todd, headed south to Cripple Creek.

Ken S., Dick, Clyde, Allan, Bill, Ken W., Victor, Jay, Todd. Sunday October 2, 2011.

We took I-25 south to Colorado Springs where we stopped for gas and a break before heading into the mountains on US-24. We turned onto SH-67 at Divide. There were a lot of people on the highway to view the fall colors. We made several pictures stops along the way.

We stopped in Cripple Creek for lunch. There were waiting lines at the restaurants but we were able to get a meal in the "Brass Ass". There was a $250,000 motorcycle on display in the casino.

After lunch we continued on SH-67, looping past the gold mine and through Victor, before rejoining US-24 at Divide. We stopped a couple more times for pictures. The aspen weren't quite as brilliant as they were last year and many had not turned yet, probably do to the warm fall.

Traffic was slow and go through Woodland Park on the way back. We encountered rain east of Woodland Park but rode out of in within minutes; we were dry by Manitou Springs. Riders began splitting off from the group as we rolled back into Denver but a few of us stopped at Charlie's for a beer. It was a great ride.

24rd Annual AIDS Walk Colorado

The club participated in the 24th annual AIDS Walk Colorado. Over eight thousand people attended this years event. It looked to me like there might have been a smaller turn out than there was last year.

The Colorado AIDS Project (CAP) gave us a space where we were able to set up an information booth about the motorcycle club. The club has helped raise funds for CAP through its annual "Cruise Against AIDS" motorcycle run. Dick lent us a canopy to protect us from the the sun and Scott put together a nice trifold information brochure. Ken and Clyde got up before 5am Saturday morning to setup and staff the booth.

The club recognizes the need for it to be more open, welcoming and flexible. Participating in community events such as AIDS Walk is a good opportunity for people to meet and talk with club members and learn about the club. It's much easier to join and maintain membership in the club than it use to be.

Annual outing to Breckenridge Colorado

The club had its annual outing to Breckenridge Colorado for the weekend. The ride from Denver took longer than usual because of heavy traffic on I-70. We learned later there had been a fatal accident near Idaho Springs.

We arrived late afternoon Friday. After unloading our gear we took a break while we compiled a grocery list. There were only three of us (Todd, Ken, Clyde) we bought enough food for six.

Saturday was a very laid-back day. None of us could muster enough energy to go riding. I suspect the big meal Friday evening and the higher altitude were contributing factors. We spent all of Saturday eating and napping but a couple of us did muster the energy to go for a swim in the pool.

Sunday was a big day. We went on a 7 1/2 hour ride over Independence Pass. Dispatcher has wanted to ride over Independence Pass since he got a motorcycle. We got off to a late start but it was a great ride. We made several stops along the way.

We took state highway 91 over Fremont Pass past the Climax molybdenum mine to the town of Leadville Colorado. We stopped in Leadville for a break and to people watch at their annual Boom Days celebration.

We took US-24 south several miles to reach state highway 82. US-24 runs parallel with the headwaters of the Arkansas River between Leadville and Buena Vista. Mount Elbert and Mount Massive can clearly be seen west of US-24. Standing at 14,440 feet, Mount Elbert is the highest peak in the Rocky Mountains of North America.

We made a picture stop at the Twin Lakes Reservoir after turning west onto Colorado state highway 82. The Twin Lakes Reservoir is one of the reservoirs in a massive system that supplies water to eastern Colorado. The Twin Lakes area is very picturesque.

Colorado State Highway 82 isn't the highest paved road in the state but it is closed over Independence Pass during the winter. The road doesn't have guard rails along the switch backs and it is quite narrow in places. It isn't a difficult ride and is among the most scenic routes in Colorado. We stopped at the pass (12,095 feet) for pictures and to take a break.

Independence Pass is along the Continental Divide. Water east of the divide will flow east toward the Atlantic while water west of the divide will flow west toward the Pacific. Highway 82 parallels the Roaring Fork river west of the pass until it reaches Aspen Colorado. We stopped and had a picnic lunch beside the Roaring Fork river.

Dispatcher had never been to Aspen Colorado before. Now he can truthfully say he's been to Aspen. The city is aptly named; the Roaring Fork Valley is nearly carpeted with Aspen trees. It was amassing to notice the change of geology as we descended into the valley from the east; the color of the rock changes from a gray color to a flaming red color.

Highway 82 is four lane highway between Aspen and Glenwood Springs Colorado where it terminates. We stopped at Glenwood Springs for gas and to take a break. We took Interstate 70 east to Frisco Colorado where we turned off to Breckenridge.

This was a great weekend ride full of lots of beautiful scenery. It wasn't difficult and Dispatcher finally rode his motorcycle over Independence Pass. The ride was 426 miles round trip.

37th Annual Golden Fleece Run has concluded

We couldn't have asked for better weather. The 37th GFR was scaled back a bit from previous runs; we didn't have bike events, people events or a show. We still all had a great time. Many people commented they liked the simpler format. We've had a couple of good snow storms and cold temperatures this year but we have also had plenty of good riding days. The club has gone on Three Mystery Dinner rides this winter.

In January we met-up Friday evening and rode over to the "Breakfast Inn Dinner" on east Evans and had a great Prime Rib dinner at a very affordable price.

In February we met-up at Cheeseman Park and rode our motorcycles out to the Columbine Steak House (300 Federal). There is a reason why that place is busy; the steaks were great and no one had to mortgage their bike to pay for dinner.

In March we met-up at Inspiration Point and rode our bikes to the Empanada Grill (4301 W 44th Ave, Denver). The Empanada Grill is small Venezuelan restaurant. The food was plentiful and satisfying.

Darian, Todd

Clyde, Ken

RMMC 37th Annual Golden Fleece Run

The Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club of Colorado announces
the 37th Annual Golden Fleece Run (GFR) July 1-4, 2011.

Visit our web site for details. Three of us (Allan, Clyde, Todd) took up the offer and rode up on Saturday. The weekend was cut short by one day because the condo wasn’t available until Saturday afternoon. It was an easy ride from Denver to Breckenridge though the traffic on I-70 was awful - it was slow-n-go in many places.

We dropped our gear off at the condo then went to Dillon for a late lunch. We took Swan Mountain road over to US-6. The road has a few fun little twists and curves but isn’t particularly challenging. Dillon’s annual Barbecue festival was that weekend so we didn’t have any trouble finding a place to eat, but we did have a little difficulty finding a place to park the bikes.

The removable touring pack I (Clyde) ordered for the Road King arrived earlier in the week so this was the first time I used it. It worked great! We picked up groceries on the way back to the condo. I was able to carry all of the groceries and a 6-pack of beer on my bike with room left over.

We were joined by Carlos Saturday night and had a late supper of Spaghetti and salad. The original plan was to ride to Leadville on Sunday for their annual Boom Days, take a ride around Turquoise lake, then loop around through Red Cliff and Vail - but by Sunday the sky had turned gray with intermittent rain and the tops of the mountains were hidden in clouds. We all felt lazy and not interested in doing anything Sunday so we just hung out at the condo. A couple of us did stroll around downtown Breckenridge late in the day Sunday.

We fixed breakfast burritos Monday morning, did the laundry and cleaned & vacuumed the condo, before a fast ride back to Denver.

--Clyde, RMMC Dispatcher
http://RockyMountaineers.Org

25th Annual Cruise Against AIDS

The Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club and Denver Dykes on Bikes held the 25th Annual Cruise Against AIDS run Sunday July 25th. The cruise is the longest running community based fundraiser benefiting the Colorado AIDS Project (CAP). Proceeds from this years run were shared between Horizon House and the CAP food bank.

The planning committee (Cathi, Allan, Tim, Jeff, Camron, Todd and Clyde) chose July 25 for the run in hopes of better weather. The committee set about soliciting sponsors from local businesses throughout the metro area, arranging for advertising, planning the route and putting up posters.

Charlie's of Denver made their facilities available for the meet-up and registration, served everyone breakfast, and provided beverages for the barbecue. The OutFront and Gayzette both provided advertising for the event. The Wrangler provided the food for barbecue. Financial support and prizes were provided by long-time sponsors including: CJ's Leather, Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson, Miller Lite, Erico Motorsports, Heven Sent Me, JR's Bar & Grill, Mile High Harley-Davidson, Motogear Outlet and Mr. Jaris Thomas.

Eighteen bikes and riders road in the annual cruise. Between registration fees and pledges the cruise raised $5,554 on run day with additional pledges to be collected. Between 2006 and 2010 the Cruise Against AIDS has raised over $33,000 dollars! Every participant received a run pin and breakfast before the run.

The riders took off at 10 O'clock for a ride into the foothills. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was a very enjoyable ride.

Watch in HD.

The club schedules a ride up Pikes Peak every year, as well as a ride to the top of Mount Evans and over Trail Ridge road. Anyone, club member or not, who completes all three may qualify for the clubs "Peak To Peak" award.

The Pikes Peak highway is a 19 mile long toll road run by the city of Colorado Springs. From the entrance gate at Cascade to the summit, at 14,115 feet, took us 47 minutes to complete (average speed 24mph). We could have made better time had it not been for other traffic on the road. The highway is partially paved - there are still 2 sections of gravel road. A project to finish the paving is scheduled for completion in 2012.

There is a series of switch backs on the west side of the mountain called the W's, because of their shape on the side of the mountain, that are particularly challenging. As you can see from the video we were going fairly slow through the W's. Watch closely and you can see that the car actually stops in a couple of the turns! I can empathize, a little, I was terrified the first time I rode up Pikes Peak a year ago, but this year I had no fear. I would even like to have gone just a little faster around those turns.

If you're going to ride up Pikes Peak or Mount Evans it's best to get an early start. After 10 the traffic has picked up and your faced with a lot of slow moving traffic and the occasional slob that crosses over the yellow line. Also the weather at the summit of these high mountains can change in a second; it can be warm and sunny at the bottom only to be cold and snow at the summit. Trail Ridge road was closed do to snow on July 5th and 6th of this year!

Unfortunately, do to scheduling conflicts and several people having to work on Saturday, we didn't have very many riders this year. It's always more fun with more riders. But, Pikes Peak and Mount Evans are not for the inexperienced; these rodes demand a skilled and experienced rider.

Also see the video Pikes Peak Highway at 116mph! It compresses the entire 47 minute ride into 9:45 minutes (roughly 116mph).

Watch in HD.

Clyde, Todd, Ken. This years theme was "007 Jason goes spying". The annual event kicked off with a cocktail party at the Denver Wrangler Wednesday evening.

Over 56 people attended this years event including representatives from: 4-Players of Colorado, Border Riders BC, Chicago Hellfire, Cowtown Leathermen, Denver Boys of Leather, Rocky Mountain Leather Alliance, Rocky Mountaineers MC, Oedipus MC Los Angeles, Satyrs MC Los Angeles and many unaffiliated. (let me know if I missed someone.)

Allan served as this years GFR Chairman. Carlos suggested the theme and did the art work for the poster; he also planned all of the meals and ran the kitchen. Special thanks to Scott R., John D. and Ron Heath for their hard work in the kitchen. Many club members, 4-Players and others helped with the setup and teardown.

The clubs Trail Boss, Todd, led a group of riders on an enduro run that included stops in Winter Park and Walden. It was a good thing someone was wearing a full-face helmet when they did a face-plant south of Walden; he's ok but the bike is probably a loss. The big cloud of dust was quite a sight to see! Special thanks to David of the Oedipus MC for the use of his AAA card and staying for the tow truck, Daniel for packing the extra gear onto his BMW, and the Walden/Jackson volunteer Fire Department for their quick response. Oh, the mosquitoes up there are huge - and vicious! It was still an enjoyable ride in spite of the mishap and riding the last 12 miles in the rain. If you are ever in Walden Colorado stop and eat at the Moose Creek Cafe.

The weather was a little more cooperative this year. Rain set in at 5:00 PM Thursday night and rained off and on through the night. It rained off and on Friday afternoon but cleared out in the evening. We had good weather for the rest of the event. Last years GFR, "Cabaret on the Titanic", was aptly named.

Our Fire Fairy, Bill, had a camp fire going every evening. Several people did sit around the fire Thursday night but the rain made for a short night. I don't know what the Boys of Leather put in the drinks Friday night but it made for an interesting and verbose camp fire. Saturdays fire was equally interesting; Jason the Spy telegraphed that people were still up at 4 in the morning!

The 4-Players of Colorado took people out on a moderate level 4x4 excursion Friday afternoon while Keith led another group of people on a moderate level hike. Friday also saw the first of the "People Events" which involved a variety of fruit. It was a lot of fun. It isn't as easy as you might think. (see the pictures).

On Saturday the 4-Players took people up to Longbow Reservoir. They also planned to go over a "mud road" unfortunately that road was closed. We had "Bike Events" later in the afternoon. The "Weenie Bite" buddy event was ditched because the wind kept knocking the polls down, but we still had a "Slow Race" and a "Drag Race" - Don, you looked fabulous! (see pictures). There were more People Games Saturday afternoon, and a Wii Bowling tournament Friday and Saturday night.

The live music by Rick Pontalion Friday and Saturday evening was extra special. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. He performs at the "aqua Lounge" (formerly Mozart's) every 2nd Saturday. Rick is a former member of the RMMC and was awarded the clubs Top Hand award in 2004 and the Peak to Peak award in 2005.

The meals were excellent! Our group was comprised of 2 Cruisers and 2 Sports bikes (Harley, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki).

From North Platte

We had a side wind the whole route (I-76 & I-80) but it wasn't too bad; we could still smell the feed-lots we past. (Imagen a sheep dog that got all wet with sour milk then multiply that stench by 1,000 - a pleasant flowery smell it is not.)

We stopped in Sutherland Nebraska for gas and a short break. While we were there a pickup truck pulled up to the pump; the driver jammed their gas cap into the pump handle and went inside; a minute latter the tank overflowed and pumped several gallons of gas onto the ground before Jeremy ran over and turned the pump off.

Twenty minutes later we were in North Platte Nebraska. We found a Burger King and ate Cheese burgers and French Fries for lunch. Logan and Jeremy needed to get back to Scottsbluff early so we said our goodbye's at the Burger King.

Todd and Clyde circled through Cody park and spent a few minutes riding around North Platte. Clyde was hoping to find a place where we could park the bikes and get a picture of the us, the bikes and the big train yard that's in North Platte, but we couldn't find a good photo spot.

We started back to Denver at 3:30PM; by then the wind had changed direction and was stronger. Because of the wind we didn't get as good of gas mileage and had to make an extra gas stop. We arrived back in Denver at 7:45PM. Total round trip mileage was 539 miles.

--Clyde
RMMC Dispatcher
http://Www.RockyMountaineers.Org/

Our trip to Kansas didn't quite go as planned

The weather forecast had been pretty iffy all week; at one time they were calling for 14 inches of snow but by Friday afternoon they were forecasting an inch of snow on grassy areas and the storm would be gone by morning. We prepared for rain and wet roads but expected to be on dry roads by the time we reached Limon Colorado. We didn't make it that far.

It was dry with clear skys when we left Denver but we ran into light rain as we went south to Parker. We encountered snow as we rode into Franktown. As we turned east onto CO-86 the snow was starting to stick to the road, our windscreens and face shields. Within a minute of turning onto CO-86 we couldn't see the road in front of us. I had to reach my hand out and wipe a small patch of snow and ice off one corner of the windscreen to see through.

After slipping and sliding in the snow and slush for several miles we called it off. It got warm enough to melt most of the snow and ice off of the streets. We of the Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club of Colorado got the itch to get our bikes out and go for a ride. Carlos received the "Vivian Solomon Club Spirit Award" - the clubs highest honor!

Ken, Todd and Clyde received Peak to Peak awards.

Todd received both the John Noble Memorial Award and the Top Hand's Award.

Carlos was awarded the Vivian Solomon Club Spirit Award.

Sunday found club members and friends pouring beer at The Wrangler. Todd, Camron and Ric all rode there bikes while Ken and Clyde rode in the car (we met-up with Bill in Leadville). The ride to Leadville was not without some excitement - just west of Golden a motor-home nearly ran Ric and Camron off the road, later at Idaho Springs, a pair of other motorcycle riders decided our group was too slow and cut right through our group. We stopped at Copper Mountain for a short break before starting up Highway 91 to Leadville.

We arrived at the train station in Leadville at noon and bought our tickets, some of us also bought souvenir pins to add to our vests, then we went to the famous Golden Burrow for lunch where we met-up with Bill.

Todd, Camron, Ric, Ken, Clyde, Bill.
Golden Burrow, Leadville, CO.

Todd, Clyde, Camron, Ric, Ken, Bill.
Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad.

The 2:00 PM Sunday October 4 run was the last run of the season for the Leadville & Southern Colorado Railroad. They make 2 runs a day from Memorial Day through the 1st Sunday of October. Up until 1985, when the Climax mine closed down, this train was used to haul the ore out from the mine. The train was converted to a tour train in 1987. The train travels from Leadville to Climax - stopping just short of the Climax mine. We snapped a lot of pictures along the way. Most of the Aspen had already past their prime and many had already dropped their leaves; they probably had been at their prime 2 or 3 weeks earlier but we still got some good pictures. The train stops for a few minutes on the way back to give people a chance to get off, snap more pictures, and tour the locomotive engine. By this time it was starting to spit a little snow and dark clouds were starting to obscure the mountains.

It was cold and damp when the bikers suited up and pulled out of Leadville at 5:00 PM. Two of the riders had heated suits. Fortunately, while cold, the return trip was uneventful and everyone reported making it home safely. (We appreciate everyone reporting in after they got home.)

Slide show

--Clyde, RMMC Dispatcher
http://Www.RockyMountaineers.Org/

60,000 miles!

Our Trail Boss, Todd, reached the 60,000 mile mark on his 2000 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Sport, Tuesday September 29, 2009, about 3 miles east of Masters/Dearfield on US 34 (between Brush and Greeley). For the Mystery Dinner we gather in front of the pavilion in Chessman Park then the Trail Boss leads the group to a restaurant for a moderately priced dinner - no one knows where the restaurant is until we get there.

This months Mystery Dinner took us through the park, past downtown Denver and Coors Field (where the Colorado Rockies play), then north on Pecos to the Tia Maria Mexican Restaurant (7260 Pecos).

The restaurant was clean, we were seated immediately, the service was friendly and quick, the food was excellent, and the price was right. Most of us had the Carnitas (roasted pork). We couldn't have asked for better weather. The sun was shining and the temperature was just right - not too warm and not too cool.

The trip started by taking the Interstate Highway north from Denver then turning off at Fort Collins. A fourth member joined our group at "Ted's Place" north of Fort Collins. The group continued north on US287 to Laramie Wyoming. We stopped in Laramie to get gas and eat lunch and do a little local sight-seeing.

After lunch we took a side trip east on I-80 to the Lincoln Head Monument. Interstate 80 is called the Lincoln Highway named in honor of Abraham Lincoln. Many of the Aspens had turned bright yellow. There was a mixture of green, yellow and rust (the rust was mostly from the dead pine killed by pine beetle.) The road was fairly easy; no cliffs and only a couple of tight S-curves. We checked into the Sage And Sand Motel (now there is some nostalgia) in Saratoga WY, unpacked, and discussed what to do next.

Camron, Todd, Keith
(Keith's car on left, Clyde's bike on right)

We decided to all pile into the Keith's car and go searching for Aspen Alley. Aspen Alley, as the locals call it, was a full 42 miles south but it was a beautiful drive and Aspen Alley was worth the trip even though these Aspen had not turned yet.

Aspen Alley

On the way back to Saratoga we circled through the town of Encampment to look at some of the old buildings there.

Presbyterian Church, Encampment Wyoming

After supper we went to the Mineral Hot Springs 2 blocks from the Motel.

What a difference a day makes. We knew we had a good chance of getting wet on the way back, sure enough, we ran into rain just after leaving Saratoga. We reduced our speed considerably as we rode in rain all the way back through the Medicine Bow National Forest. We got past the rain on the east side as we left the National Forest but had strong winds until we reached Fort Collins. It was a fast run back to Denver on the Interstate Highway from Fort Collins.

Click for slide show

Round trip mileage was 455 miles. Members who didn't go missed out on a fun weekend.

Our trip started Friday morning at Cheesman Park, in central Denver, and proceeded west on Interstate 70 to the Frisco exit then south to Breckenridge. We unloaded our gear at the condominium, ate a Power Bar, drank some water then headed back out.

This next excursion took us through historic Leadville Colorado, around picturesque Turquoise Lake, over Tennessee Pass to Red Cliff Colorado. After a short rest in Red Cliff we continued north through Minturn to I70, back to Frisco and Breckenridge. There is a historic picturesque bridge just outside of Red Cliff unfortunately there wasn't a place to pull off and take a picture.

Saturday was a laid-back day. We got up when we got up. After packing a lunch we headed over to Dillon to watch sailboat races. We didn't see any activity that looked like a race but we all enjoyed kicking back and doing nothing but watching the lake. After eating our pack lunch we rode over Swan Mountain road back to Frisco where we toured the Art Street Fair.

We ate a huge spaghetti dinner for supper Saturday night. We were also fortunate enough to be in Breckenridge on the night of their 150th celebration and were treated to a great fireworks display! Breckenridge is 150 years old.

Sunday saw us back in Leadville for the Leadville "Boom Days" Celebration and annual Burro races. Leadville Colorado, steeped in history and draped in beauty, is truly a magical place. Pot-roast, potatoes and veggies for supper.

Carlos, Allan, Todd. Leadville, Co. Aug. 9, 2009

Monday morning we set about cleaning the Condo, doing laundry and re-making the beds. After setting the Condo right and packing our gear we headed out. We took Swan Mountain road over to Keystone where we joined old US6. US6 took us past Arapahoe Basin and over Loveland Pass to the Loveland Ski area where US6 re-joins Interstate 70. We stopped at the top of Loveland Pass and took pictures.

Clyde and Todd. Charlie's served us a continental breakfast.

After breakfast we set out on our cruise. It was still cold with a wet mist in the air. We received a short briefing on the riding rules and the route. Todd was the Road Captain and Ken was the Tail Gunner. This was the first time I've ridden in a group so I road behind Todd. I did well but may have left too much space between myself and Todd.

We road west to Red Rocks where we had a group photo taken. Sixth Avenue was still wet so we got some misting and splash back from other traffic, but it wasn't too bad. From Red Rocks we road to Berkley Park in north Denver for a picnic. Carlos fixed Beer Bratwurst that was really good. It had stopped raining by then.

It was a small group this year; there were only 8 riders this year. Most riders are "far weather" riders unfortunately the last 2 years have been cold and wet for the annual cruise. Two years ago they had 50 riders! It isn't necessary to ride a motorcycle to participate; the picnic is open to anyone regardless of mode of transportation. I counted 19 people at the picnic. There would have been more people and more riders had the weather been nice.

Red Rocks. What an experience! The RMMC got back from our first trip to Sturgis, SD for the 63rd Annual Black Hills Motorcycle Rally! They say you either love it or hate it.... I’m thinking we all love it!

There were 7 of us from the RMMC that went. It was 450 miles each direction, and some rode it all (although not on the same bike – Scott W. had some mechanical problems) and some hauled their bikes while hauling all our camping gear – BIG THANKS! We camped in a campground right across from the "Full Throttle Saloon", the world's largest biker bar! Our tents were pitched by Scott K. & Jeff when we got there and we settled in for the last of the party! (We arrived on Thursday, and stayed through Sunday - so we partied with the die-hards!) We got rained on, hailed on, cooked in the heat (got to 112 degrees at one point) - but all of us enjoyed it, and would do it again!

Sturgis was extremely packed (the normal population is approx. 6,000 and during bike week add another 500,000)! It took us 1.5 hours to get across this town the first time. The people were everywhere, bikes are parked in every nook and cranny of town. It was breathtaking looking down Main St. from one end where they have it blocked off for motorcycles only, and seeing the four rows of motorcycles - 1 on each side, and two rows down the middle - for as far as you can see. The vendors were everywhere, selling leather clothing, patches, souvenirs, motorcycle parts, etc. Food was abundant from the vendors (although we cooked at the camp). And yes, alot of what you hear about Sturgis Bike Week is true - lots of parties, fun, nudity (although not in town), motorcycles... but it was all good!

--Scott
RMMC Trail Boss

Trail Ridge Road

Even though it was just me, it was a great ride. We did 250 miles!

--Scott
RMMC Trail Boss

Shaken - Not Stirred!

What an amazing 200 miles of Colorado scenery! bold;">Who are the Rocky Mountaineers? The Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club is the oldest gay organization in Colorado, founded in 1968 and yes, it's a true motorcycle club. All of our members share something special - an interest in promoting the sport of motorcycling! But the club isn't all about that one thing... it's not all just about riding, or fundraising, or socializing - it's a balance of all those things. Any motorcycle club is first and foremost a social organization, based on a common interest. We ride and we have a great time doing it. We want our club members to become friends and brothers, to be social, and to share in the camaraderie of being a part of the organization while participating in doing everything we do - that's what any kind of club should be about.

Fundraising? Yes, the Rocky Mountaineers MC does a number of fundraisers throughout the year for various charities! We pour beer during beer busts at the Denver Wrangler... we also co-sponsor the Cruise Against AIDS which has raised over $160,000 since its inception 25 years ago! We participate in other group's charity rides, etc... We also give money away to charities at the end of the year! In 2008, we donated money and gift cards to Project Angel Heart and Horizon House!

Do you have to own a motorcycle to join? NO, you do not have to own or ride a motorcycle to join the RMMC. Our club's mission is to promote motorcycling in our community. We also do fundraisers for the club and other charities which you can be a part of! And you just might be able to find someone who's willing to take you for a ride and help you expand your horizons in the Motorcycle and/or Levi/Leather communities!

Should I join? YES! If any of this sounds interesting and maybe a little intriguing to you and you're interested in finding out more about the Rocky Mountaineers MC, please familiarize yourself with our organization by digging around on the website, then please visit our "Membership" page for an application. You can also send our Membership Chairman, Scott White, an e-mail by clicking on his name. He will be glad to give you more information about the club and the process of joining. The Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club is based in Denver, Colorado. We were founded in 1968 and are the oldest gay organization in Colorado. The RMMC is, and has always been, a club dedicated to the promotion of the sport of motorcycling by motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts.

If you are interested in joining the RMMC as a Regular Active Member, here are a couple of things you should know:

1. All people are eligible to apply for membership. All applications must be signed by an active member who is willing to sponsor you, and will be reviewed by the club and voted on to be accepted into the "Prospect" process.

2. All successful applicants will be subject to the "Prospect" process and will be expected to complete the requirements. The current requirements are that you pay your refundable initiation fee of $50.00 (which covers the cost of patch, pins, name bars, etc.), attend either 3 consecutive club events (of which the regular Sunday rides do not count) or one event per month for 3 months (or as soon as possible). Examples of eligible events are: club meetings, beer busts, GFR, Cruise Against AIDS, etc.

Please remember that the Prospect Process does serve a purpose. We are taking the opportunity to get to know you, and we're giving you the opportunity to get to know us. Please take advantage of this opportunity to really get to know the club and its brothers.

3. Once you have completed the prospect process, your application and report of your Prospect Process will be brought back to the club for another vote.

Please note: successful completion of the Prospect Process does NOT guarantee automatic membership in the Rocky Mountaineers MC. It is COMPLETELY at the discretion of the active club members, a vote will be taken to determine if the members think you're a good fit for the club, and to allow you membership.

4. When you have made it this far, CONGRATULATIONS - you have become a member of the oldest gay organization in Colorado! We don't really ask much of our members. All that we ask is that you participate in our events as often as possible and we do have a certain number of events that are mandatory attendance (valid excuse can be given in advance) such as Wrangler Beer Busts (our major fundraisers) and the Anniversary Party (aka "Top Hand's Cocktail Party") which always happens in mid-to-late October. At the time that you are elected into full membership, your membership dues will start at a rate of $5.00/month.

We STRONGLY encourage ALL of our members to plan to attend GFR over 4th of July weekend. We host a 4-day outdoor campout in the mountains, and host people from all over the United States - it takes all of us to really pull it off in the grand fashion that our reputation has continued to live up to!

The only other thing we ask is that you have FUN!

If you are interested in joining the RMMC as an Associate Member, the associate membership dues are $12.00 annually. Our Associate Members are very important as well - they show our friends around the world that they show support for the Rocky Mountaineers MC!!

http://www.rockymountaineers.org/
